Amazing Customer Service Moment

In this world today it seems that there is no such thing as customer service. Most companies couldn't care less whether you are a loyal customer or whether they produce a quality product. There is a great deal of anonymity now since almost all communication is via e-mail, on-line chat and occasionally the phone. It is much easier to forget about or brush aside concerns in those situations and most employees feel little loyalty or connections to the companies for which they work.

So, given that tirade I must say that I was pleasantly surprised the other day. I'll give you a little bit of back story. Most of you who know me much at all know that I love to cook. I enjoy finding new kitchen gadgets and if Alton Brown shows it on his show I'm searching it out. My favorite gadget company is OXO their product are easy on your hands and they always have the most functional products. Christmas time was a busy cookie baking time for me and my cookie scoop was put to good use over and over. Well one of my cookie doughs called to be chilled and I used my scoop on it and the sweeper arm got twisted all out of whack rendering my scoop useless. I was so sad! Knowing it was my fault I started an internet search to find a replacement as soon as possible for the cheapest price possible. I came upon the OXO home page and was looking/dreaming about all of the cool products they have and I noticed the following statement "What is OXO's Return Policy? We guarantee everything we make! If for any reason you are not satisfied with an OXO product, return it for replacement or refund. Please contact OXO's customer service department and we will be happy to assist you. "

Still it wasn't dissatisfaction with their product just with my use of it that rendered it unusable so I didn't hold out any hope but I sent them an e-mail explaining what had happened. They responded immediately (Christmas Eve no less) that all I needed to do was find the proper product number and let them know which one it was and they would replace it. Well folks - today on my door step was a box with my brand new cookie scoop. Woo hoo.

Alright, I realize that many of you may find excitement over a cookie scoop to be silly but the theme here is not just the excellent quality of their products but an unbelievable customer service policy. I will continue to pay a higher price for their products because of their quality but I will continue to highly recommend them to others because of their customer service.

So here are my recommendations for the everyday cook's kitchen:
Potato Peeler - no more sore hands
Liquid Measure Cup - no more bending down to see if you have the right amount
Bottle/Can Opener - once again, easier on the hands
